8 Reasons Why Kids and Parents Love This Book-Game

- Toy prizes to be won every time he reads! Just imagine how excited kids will be when they get to open a treasure chest and find a toy with every page they read! Toys meet U.S. safety standards and are stored in the chests on the book.

- Interactive game in a book - Kids don't just read this book, they interact with it. That's what makes it so much fun - a book-game! They are finding toys in chests, matching toys to clue drawings and placing toys on the treasure map. This is no ordinary book!

- So many adventures that kids can't put it down! For some kids, the action in books just doesn't happen fast enough. That's why Kai's treasure hunt is made up of 8 short clue stories to keep kids reading. Each clue story is a complete adventure - opening with a riddle about the challenge Kai must overcome and ending with him finding the next clue chest.

- Choose-your-adventure excitement.  Reading a book from front to back is boring!  With this book-game, the child opens any chest he wants to. The toy inside the chest is the clue to which story he reads next. A child might find the gold inside the first chest he opens or he may get to open all 8!  There are thousands of ways to find the gold.

- Kids love everything treasure!  Kids today dream about finding lost treasure just as much as we did when we were their age.  And this book has it all - riddles, treasure chests, clues, gold coins and even a treasure map! But that's not all...

- There's a FREE fun-filled website with activities, competitions and more, so kids get to keep learning and having fun! And as a bonus, kids can use the toys and treasure map to crack the code word that opens a secret section online.

- Stories that capture their imagination. Kai has amazing adventures. He must use his wits to conquer the challenges and find the gold. And the illustrations are simply breathtaking, done by Victor Guiza who's illustrated for The Simpsons, Disney, and The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

- Kids are ABLE to read this book-game. If kids find even 5% of a text difficult to read, they'll often stop reading. That's why we worked with literacy professionals to make sure the language is NOT a barrier to reading. (Age 5-9+. Reading level late Year 1/early Year 2).

Why was this book created?

The author’s sons were 6 and 9 years old when the idea of this book was born.

Both were reluctant readers. What kept the author awake at night was her concern that her sons were falling behind in school because they wouldn’t read at home.  They loved playing with toys – any toys – but reading, No Way!

One night, she had a dream about a special book that had things in it that made kids want to keep turning the pages to interact with the story and get the next prize.

When she woke up she thought, “What a great idea!”

She put together a prototype and showed her sons and their friends. They loved it!

Over the next few months, she developed and patented this new type of book that turned reading into playing.

The author wanted to make sure that kids didn’t get discouraged by complex language so worked with literacy professionals to edit the book for easy reading (late Year 1/early Year 2).

This book is for kids 6-11, and is especially loved by those kids who aren’t keen to read for fun!

About the author

Karen Guinn Robertson

Karen spent a happy childhood living in Florida, Delaware and Texas with her parents – Merilyn and Layton Guinn, twin sister Renaye and her brother Mark.

In 1988, she received a B.A. in English at Texas A&M University and had a successful career in Advertising and Marketing for 19 years in the US and Australia before becoming an author and entrepreneur.

In early 2007, Karen was struggling to find ways to inspire her sons, 6 & 9, to read for fun.

Both were having difficulties with reading. She knew how critical literacy was to education and had seen the impact of poor literacy on a child’s self esteem.  (See reluctant reading).

So she created a new kind of book that combines the fun of miniature toys with the magic of stories to keep kids turning the page!

Karen lives in Sydney, Australia with her husband, Chris and two sons – Connor and Scott.

She loves spending time with family and friends, entertaining, going to the beach, walking, eating out and has a passion for dark chocolate! She’s also a Cub Scout leader.

See her blog tracking her Big Bold Goal of giving the gift of literacy to every child who's struggling to learn to read:  http://treasurereading.blogspot.com/
